For Missourians 62 and older

Need it? Keep it.
Don't need it? Give it back.

A respectful request to our neighbors about the SB190 senior property tax freeze, and what it means for the kids in your community.

You paid into these schools for decades. Many of you taught in them, coached in them, or sent your kids and grandkids through them. The freeze was meant to help seniors stay in their homes, and for many people it does exactly that.

But the freeze doesn't check whether someone needs help. And since most of a Missouri property tax bill goes to the local school district (about 80 cents of every dollar in many communities), every dollar of relief that isn't needed comes mostly out of local classrooms.

Please keep the freeze if…

  • Rising property taxes could force you out of your home
  • You're choosing between taxes and groceries, medicine, or utilities
  • You live on a fixed income that isn't keeping up with costs
  • You're not sure. Keep it, and check again next year.

You earned this. No one should feel guilty for using help they need.

Consider withdrawing if…

  • Your taxes rising would be an inconvenience, not a hardship
  • You'd rather your savings stay with local students and teachers
  • You signed up because "everyone did," not because you needed it
  • You want your tax dollars to keep up with your community's schools

It only takes a phone call or a short letter.

Step by step

How to withdraw from SB190

The senior freeze is run by your county, so withdrawing goes through your County Collector. The office that sends your property tax bill is usually the one to contact.

  1. Find your County Collector

Their phone number and address are printed on your property tax bill. You can also look them up in the Missouri County Collectors directory. Clay County residents can use the Clay County Collector's contact page.

  2. Call or write and ask to be removed

Say: "I'd like to withdraw from the senior property tax freeze program under SB190." Some counties may ask for a written request. You can use the letter below.

  3. Ask for written confirmation

Ask the office to confirm your withdrawal by letter or email. Keep a copy. You'll need it to claim your free shirt.

  4. Send us your proof, and get a free shirt

Upload a photo or PDF of your confirmation using the form below. We'll email you a code for a free shirt. You pay only shipping and handling.
